How to find high speed internet in your area

High speed Internet is something that is coming more and more commonplace even for people who live out in the country. If you do live in the country it may be more of a challenge to find it. The first thing you can do to determine who offers High Speed Internet in your area is to find out if there is a local phone or cable provider. It is not a guarantee the phone or cable company will also provide High Speed Internet but there is an increased possibility.

If you already know this information and can access a computer you can go to the web site of the company you are considering doing business with. Somewhere on the site there will be a place where you can just start signing up for service. First, it's going to ask for your zip code and street address. Once you have done that it will tell you if the company in question offers service. If the answer is yes then it will allow you to proceed with your order. If the answer is no then there will be a spot where you can have somebody send you an e-mail once it is available.

If you do not currently own a computer and do not even have dial up service then your next best bet is to do the same thing over the phone. The agent you talk to at the bare minimum will need your address and zip code because that is what the Internet providers base their ability to provide service on. Some Internet Service Providers also require a credit check and if you have bad credit then chances are you will have to pay some type of a deposit. Whether or not that deposit is refundable and how the money is refunded could depend on the company.

So if I don't have a computer and don't know who is available in my area how do I know where to look for High Speed Internet? Your next best bet is to check with your TV carrier. Most TV providers either offer bundles directly or they have partnerships with various companies in your area. More often than not you will be eligible to get a discount for bundling your services. The specifics of how that works depends on the company you choose and sometimes it may require an agreement. If you talk to an agent make sure you specifically ask unless the agent brings it up first.

The last important thing to know in how to find a High Speed Internet provider is to know if there is a specific amount of bandwidth in each area. This is something agents will know and there will also probably be a disclosure on the company web site about that subject in the availability section. If the answer to the question is yes then the next thing you need to find out is how many people in your area have that specific Internet Service Provider. It's important because it could be the determining factor in whether you get it or not. Not knowing this information ahead of time could potentially cause you to lose money as deposits and upfront charges are always refundable. If you do agree to some type of upfront charge for the equipment and installation it also is a good idea to find out if that money is refunded should you have to pay it upfront.

The best way to find out if it's available? Make yourself aware who offers phone and TV service. Try there first and more than likely one company or the other will also offer Internet.
