Pasta is an excellent carbohydrate main dish for any table. The carbohydrate is packed with essential vitamins, minerals, fibers and a host of other nutrients that are beneficial for the body. Because of its many properties, it is great for giving that punch of energy necessary for an active person. The simple pasta (white) will quickly rush through the bloodstream and cause the glucose level in the body to spike rapidly.
Thus, when preparing pasta, it is best to choose the healthier version. This comes in the form of whole wheat which consists of more fibers and nutrients. The whole wheat version will not elevate the blood sugar as quickly in the body but will gradually seep in the blood stream. Moreover, the whole wheat version will keep you satiated for a longer time.
The great thing about cooking pasta as a main dish is that you can make it your own by adding as many accompaniments to the dish whether in the form of protein and/or vegetables. The dishes are quick, nutritious and easy; yet, they are great enough to fall under a main dish category. One great way to chop up carrots, squash, and onions and place same in baking sheet with a drizzle of olive oil and dry seasoning to your preference.
After the roasting of these vegetables, toss these on cooked pasta and add a choice of fresh herbs along with an extra drizzle of olive oil and a little parmesan cheese. These wholesome ingredients will give the dish an added serving of nutrients that are great for the body.Moreover, the array of colorful vegetables will give the dish an attractive appearance that will have everyone rushing to the table. Another way to way to include veggies is to lightly and quickly satay baby spinach with garlic in olive oil. Toss in cooked pasta and combine all the ingredients. Top this with a piece of broiled or grilled salmon or any other fish of choice.
A main dish of pasta can also be enjoyed by adding chopped lean meat in the form of beef, pork or turkey. Brown meat in a few teaspoons of oil in skillet. Season along; then, add diced onions, carrots, tomatoes, celery, and spices.Also, for extra sauce, crush canned tomatoes for great consistency. Proceed to add a little stock or plain water and allow to simmer over low heat. Toss in pasta cooked with a little bite (al dente). Combine and sprinkle fresh herbs on finished pasta dish.
These main pasta dishes will provide beneficial nutrients; and will keep everyone satiated. Moreover, the individual dishes will certainly wake up everyone taste buds in a great way because they are delicious and mouthwatering to the palate.
