In the first film of the *_Friday_the_13th_*-series, please remember that (except for a possible metaphor-sequence at the very end), "Jason" wasn't even in the movie! (Or, he was ... if you haven't seen it.)
My Mom Should Have Seen the First One and/or Should'a Learned Mrs. Voorhees' Madness
While I don't agree with the late Gene Siskel who said that *_Friday_the_13th_* should've been banned-from-theaters-or restricted to the drive-in back-lots (like the many-many low-budget slasher-flicks before it)-I do agree that it shouldn't have been popular for the reasons it was popular ... the carnal madness.
That is to say that much more press-time and sequel-plots should have dwelt on the reasoning-/philosophies-behind the villains' actions (Mrs. Voorhees because her son died due to lustful neglect, and Jason because his mom died due to the vengeance she sought).
I think the point (of at least the first 2 sequels) should have been that the whole mess might have been averted by dealing with the injustice the randy 'camp counselors' perpetrated when the original damage was done.
(That's not to say Mrs. Voorhees wouldn't still have gone crazy, or that her son wouldn't still rise-again and kick some -just that the legalistic justification would've made the psychotic justification that much more psychotic.)
But viewers should've been rooting for "justice," not necessarily for the people whom Voorhees hunted.

If you know me (or have red much of this blog), you know how my mother should've taken Mrs. Voorhees' action as a lesson-not that she ought to go so crazy as to start killing people, but not 'just makin` sure I'm still alive' and then leaving the justice to the law-people.
I am Golden! (was a Golden Child ... still exhibit some childish qualities ... but the Gold shines through). When I was killed, the old Gold was stripped away and I had to find new Gold.
Yet Gold is worth nothing if people don't see that you've learned to use it; and I was forced to use the new Gold as if it were the old. (It was either that, or learn all about my new Gold without the old friends.)
But life-wise, that means that people see that I learned to use the Gold badly ... they might excuse the fact that it was the wrong Gold if they're interested enough to read my 'history' past the years-and-years of wrong-Gold usage.
But I repeat, the fourteen years that I'd used to learn the old Gold were stolen from me ... but did it bother my mother that I did not receive justification in exchange for THE TREASURE OF MY LIFETIME?
Apparently, she wasn't 'bothered' enough to see that justice be done ... like she was some retard-mama with ADD:
"First, we gotta make sure you're not dead; you're not? Yayy! Then, we gotta make sure you can move around okay; you can? Yayy! Then, we gotta make sure we register the invisible adamantium straitjacket the car put on you for the first fourteen years of your life; no justice?... Hmmm ... flowers are pretty! Yayy ..."
If my mother was as devestated as she says she was (when I was still 'on the machine'), then-while she wouldn't quite 'Voorhees' every teacher who ever pays attention to anything other than students-she would invest herself entirely in seeing that I be fully repayed! (going so far as to quit her job until such time as I were satisfied that justice was done).

Along with the carving of pumpkins and Trick or Treating, watching scary movies is one of Halloween's most hallowed traditions.

We love to be scared. We particularly love to be scared on Halloween. What's a night of evil without being scared, right?
