Cellular phone use is keeping us more isolated from our loved ones, family and more connected to our casual friends and business relationships. How often have you been with a family member and an intrusion is made by someone calling on the cell phone? Yes, it is true, cell phones have made it easier and more convenient for people to contact us at any hour of the day or night. These interruptions or intrusions may cause isolation from your family members.
There once was a time, when calling on a cell phone was strictly for emergency purposes. Gone are those days. Most everyone has a cell phone now and the cell phone is the preferred way to contact someone. This simply means everyone is more accessible to interruptions during the day or night. There isn't any etiquette to cell phone use these days. A cell phone number is an invitation to call any time.
The simple solution should be to turn those darn devices off while enjoying time with your family or loved ones. i guess it would be rude to let the call go to voice mail.
Technology has advanced the capability of advertisers, the other woman or man calling whenever they feel the desire to reach out and touch. Tyler Perry depicted this scenario in his film, titled, "Why did I get married"? The husband felt neglected and isolated from the affection of his wife, because his wife was constantly taking business calls from her cell phone, while on a vacation get away with her husband.
Computers and cell phones have replaced personal communication. Personal communication takes too much time, so I'm told. So we have replaced personal communication with quickie, clandestine calls and text messages. These type of phone calls breed isolation from other family members. What has happened to eye to eye contact, while communicating? Sure, the new cell phones may offer a live stream video of the caller. But, it just isn't the same as the connection found in personal communication.
Cell phones are an important advancement in modern day technology. Our connection is via satellite. Those long distance romances seldom work because the distance is apparent and isolation soon sets in.
Those nagging ring tones can interrupt a family meal or leave you out on a cliff hanger of your favorite TV show. A well balanced life means equal time for work and play. It may be hard, for the employer to resist calling you at home.
In order to stay connected with our loved ones and family, we must set necessary boundaries for cell phone use. Perhaps we should once again use the cell phone for emergency use only. After all, how did we get by before without cell phones? We interacted with each other more and had much more time to do so.
If your mom or dad live in another city then by all means please keep in touch by cell phone. Remember, you can call anytime,on your lunch break, bathroom break. You get the picture and you don't have a valid excuse for not calling your mom or dad.
