God is not Santa Claus, Nor is He a genie waiting to grant three wishes. He is a person who wants a relationship with us. "Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart"(Jeremiah 29:12,13). Also, "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him"(II Chronicles 16:9). Answers to our prayers come through our relationship with Him, our loyalty to Him, and through our faith. If you read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) in the Bible, you'll find that when Jesus heals people, many times He tells them that it's their faith that has made them well. It is our connection with God that allows His power to flow in our lives. If the connection is blocked or cut off, nothing can get through to us. I know this from experience: before I had a relationship with God, when my prayers were not instantly answered, I would immediately conclude that prayer did not work, and turn to other methods, or despair. But now, as my relationship grows and I trust Him to work things out in my life, prayers are answered much more often, perhaps right away, perhaps later, or perhaps differently than I expected. And I know that the longer I continue on this path, continuing to trust and believe, the more I will be able to pray with clarity and faith, to see results.
