The embers die low.
The last page of the year is closed;
And as the coals burn,
Visions of yesterdays' delight return
To haunt the present with the ghost of memory
The joys of days spent with you.
Times to remember
Smiles
Laughter
The hopes for many more years
Years with you beside me.

Like fragile pieces of glass.
The fragments blown to the wind.
Never to be returned.
The flame of our love was put out;
But even on the darkest nights it glows.

Striving to return
Welcome summer days
You brought with you the flame's return
Not the same
More brilliant
And with it came new dreams
To be shattered
The next New Year's Eve
