I wouldn't think in this day and age that many younger people would hide large sums of money at home. Most of us know that the best place for one's hard-earned moolah (if you have any to spare)is in the bank - and let's face it, most of us use plastic for a lot of our financial transactions. More often than not, I'm lucky to even have any paper money in my purse. The only money anybody might be able to find around here would be coins that have fallen out of my husband's pocket!
If for any reason you do have some money that needs to be hidden temporarily though, I would say you need to just use your imagination and find somewhere nobody is likely to think of.
In preparation for such occasions one might buy an old, hardback book from a second-hand bookshop and cut away a square section from the middle of the pages. This can form a hidden compartment. Then just put it amongst your other books on a high shelf. Nobody is likely to guess there's money hidden inside an old book.
Another possibility would be to undo the velcro on the back of a child's toy where the battery compartment is and hide some cash in there. Or you could put it in a child's pyjama bag or something similar that has a little inconspicuous compartment in it.
The freezer is another place - or the pantry - particularly if you use something like a coffee or drinking chocolate tin. I used to collect for the Salvation Army and I remember once putting a bag of money in the washing machine when I had to pop out for a while. I doubt many people would think to look in the washing machine. Of course you'd have to be sure to remember to take it out before you did a load of washing. The clothes dryer would be a pretty good place too. Or what about in a little bag amongst your pegs. It's not as if pegs are something that would attract the attention of a robber! Or you might use the vacuum cleaner bag compartment - but under the bag, not in it - for obvious reasons!
The dog's bed would be a good place too - tucked down under their blankets. I don't think anybody would be likely to go rummaging through the dog's bedding. For the same reason the bottom of the dirty clothes basket or in the toe of a dirty old shoe would be pretty good places too.
Speaking of the family pet, how many dogs have an old split tennis ball that lays around the place? You could push a few folded up hundred-dollar notes in there for temporary safe-keeping if you were lucky enough to have that denomination
