Are men and women really equal? Being a women myself I would love to think (as I am sure most women do) that men are the weaker sex, but think about that. Women can hold their own in many things, but do we really want women being drafted?!?
I am sorry to say that I do not believe men and women are equal. Men and women are both human, we both make mistakes. Both sexes however have traits that make them predispositioned to be better at certain tasks than the other. Men are stronger which makes them more suitable for many careers. Then we have women who are more nurturing which makes more suitable for others.
For instance you have a male friend who says they are meeting one of their construction friends after they get off work for a bite to eat, mentally you picture a male. When someone says a nurse will be right with you, you prepare yourself for a woman to walk into the room. When you picture a truck driver, usually you see a man; when you picture a kindergarten teacher, a woman. We do it subconsciously, but we do it none the less.
Our country has taken enormous strides in equality of the sexes, but I still feel that men and women are not and should not be treated equal. If a man can do a legitimately better job than a woman than he should get paid more and vice versa. I do not think that people should get a job or get paid a certain amount based on sex alone.
My husband said to me the other day "women don't act like they used to in all those old movies". He is right, but I said that "women aren't treated the same way they used to be". Men used to have respect for women, open doors for women, treat women like, well, women. Now days women have more responsibilities than making sure the house is tidy and packing the kids' lunches. We have full time careers on top of juggling dinners, school activities, running errands, and whatever other crisis that is sure to arrive during the week while we try to help with homework and clean the house.
I am not saying that men are better than women or that women are better than men. I am just saying that we are not equal and we never will be. The draft is no place for a woman. Think about how many women you know right now that go hunting, or shoot target practice, or own a gun? Now how many men? It is not too say that women can not serve a valuable part in our country's military. There are many things that women can do to help our country in that aspect. Would you really want women to be drafted? How many women would be drafted not knowing they were pregnant? At least if a woman enlisted by her own choice she could prepare herself to be there and want to be there. I strongly believe that the draft is no place for women to be!
