Every country in the world has ownership for weird driving laws and the United States is no exception. Most drivers adhere to the basic rules of the road but there are rules that drivers in the United States may not be aware of. Here are some laws that people in other countries and states may think are very bizarre.
Most parts of the US accept and tolerate the screeching of tires on pavement but if a driver happens to be in Kansas this type of driving could place them in jail for thirty days or at the least present them with a $500 fine or both. The screeching of tires in Kansas is a state wide law.
Car doors are opened and closed many times during the day without a thought given to the action that is being performed. In the state of Oregon it is wise to pay attention to the opening of the driver’s side door. In Oregon it is against the law to open a car door on the driver’s side and leave it open longer than necessary. This law is meant for the safety of bicyclists, traffic and pedestrians. Breaking this law can mean a $90 fine. Oregon takes this law very seriously by making it a Class D traffic infraction.
If a person is prone to road rage, Rockville Maryland is not the place to be, especially if they use a few choice words to accompany the rage. In Rockville, Maryland it is against the law to swear in a car if other people can hear the profanity. This may sound a bit far-fetched but it is accompanied by a fine of $100 and/or ninety days in jail.
Weird laws are everywhere but perhaps Alabama is at the top of the list. Alabama has a law that forbids anyone driving while blindfolded. As ridiculous as this law sounds there have been some that have tried to do this, hence the law is written in the books.
Hilton Head, South Carolina takes putting out the garbage very seriously, at least the garbage that is in a vehicle. It is forbidden to store garbage in a vehicle. Breaking this law could result in $500 in fines or 30 days in jail. Although this is somewhat a health issue the reasoning is that garbage attracts rodents and the state would rather not have them distributed around the city, via a vehicle.
Many people spend hours cleaning their vehicle but in Minnetonka, Minnesota a person must pay special attention to their tires. It is against the law in Minnetonka to drive with muddy or sticky tires. This law may sound bizarre, but by breaking it, a person could be subjected to a $2000 fine. Dirty tires are a misdemeanour in this city.
Sag Harbour, New York is known for its beaches. This leads to the temptation of discarding wet clothing for dry ones while driving in a car. Before doing this a person needs to take a second look at the laws in Sag Harbour New York. It is against the law to change your clothing in a vehicle while driving in this city and could lead to a fine of $100 and/or 90 days in jail.
Weird laws could pop up anywhere so be sure while visiting or driving in another city that checking the laws would be a smart thing to do. As bizarre as it sounds some of these laws could make the difference of having a great day or spending it anywhere but in a vehicle.
