Poetry: Pride

by J Richard Karlsson

Created on: September 24, 2011

It is true that your Grandmother lived so long ago in time, during the Great Depression

Her loving ways, her glazing eyes, her smile all leaves a lasting impression

She was brought up in a time when there was so little, so few of all things we have and own

She didn't have a cabinet filled with food, toys to play or even new clothes, for that they had to be sown

She would have to walk to school, and make good with what they had, but she had been given a special gift

One that lasted her a lifetime, She was blessed with ggod health and love her spirits were given a lift

She would hold her head up high, shoulders straight, she had a notion of pride

She knew her means were humble, and often went without a meal, she took it all in stride

To think of what she went through, and never have a bad word to say

With everything she does, her head held high, she is like a christmas gift every day

She's proud to be an American, she's proud of being a mother, she's a very special lady, and I too am proud of her
