While having a good product or service is the start of a successful small business, marketing is arguably important as well. Perhaps, some might say a good marketing plan is even more valuable than a good product/service. After all, how many times have we been suckered into a useless or overrated new gadget by the clever motto or brainwashing infomercial? While traditional advertising methods are often still successful, it’s important to reach out to as many target groups as possible. In today’s technologically advancing world that relies heavily on social media,
Twitter is becoming the new tool for advertising among small businesses, as it’s both useful and free. But in order to properly market your business through Twitter, it’s important that you consider the following:
Make the most out of your profile. The character limit in your profile is just that—limited. So be sure that you craft a clever sentence that captures the heart of your business’s mission. Include any key words that might yield search results. Per Twitter’s description, this may include real names or locations, but for the purpose of a business, consider typing in search terms that relate to your product or service. The photograph on your profile should use the business’s name and/or logo, just as you would normally use to advertise your company.
Maximize your posts, or tweets. The number of characters in your tweets is limited to one hundred and forty characters, which includes spaces and punctuation; that’s less than this statement—to put things into perspective. In order to communicate effectively through Twitter, you’ve got to choose your words and your messages carefully. Diction matters here like it’s rarely mattered before. Each word needs to speak volumes.
Attract followers. You can accumulate followers in more than one way, but you’ve got to advertise a bit in order to advertise on Twitter. It’s like spending money to make money. Include “We’re on Twitter” information on your fliers, brochures, emails, etc. Word of mouth is still a great way to begin gathering followers, as well. And look into your competitors followers and follow them.
Maintain followers. The key to maintaining your followers is to make sure your posts are worth reading. Advertise your product
