Cleveland Elementary School is located on Northwest 23rd Street, the northern border of the Crestwood neighborhood in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, zip code 73701. The single family homes built in the 1920’s to the 1930’s, sit on large lots creating a charming neighborhood with tree lined streets. Crestwood Baptist Church is on the corner of Northwest 16th Street and North Villa Avenue which are the neighborhood boundaries on the east and south. Taft Middle School is on the corner of Northwest 23rd Street and the western boundary, North May Avenue. Northwest Classen High School is adjacent to Taft Middle School putting all three schools less than a mile from the Crestwood neighborhood.
The Oklahoma City University is two miles east of the neighborhood and features many degree programs. Well-known for its sports programs, residents have their choice of sporting events to attend. The State Fair Park is two miles to the south and the home of the Oklahoma State Fair that is held in September. It also calls itself the “Horse Show Capital of the World” with events held there all year long.
Surrounding this neighborhood are businesses and shops catering to the needs of the residents. The premier shopping area is the Penn Square Mall, four miles north of the neighborhood. The Mall has several major anchor stores, great places for dining and a 10-screen movie theater. Closer to home, the Portland Plaza Shopping Center is a smaller collection of shops and restaurants.
There are several nearby parks. Wayman’s Park has a playground for the children with a climbing structure and swings. Denniston Park has a large open grass area for family football games and a playground. Swatek Park has a baseball area with a backstop and a covered picnic area that borders the playground.
One of the oldest parks in Oklahoma City is Will Rogers Park. It is known for its four gardens and conservatory featuring different kinds of plants from roses to cactus. It is also one of three parks that have a disc golf course.
Golfing is also nearby with the two 18-hole golf courses at Lake Hefner and the 9-hole course at James E. Stewart Golf Course. Lake Hefner also has the OKC Paw Park and Dog Beach so even canines can get in on the action.
For fishermen, Lake Hefner is a great place to fish as is Lake Overholser. There are also several places to fish along the Oklahoma River. When not fishing, the Oklahoma River Trails provide places for walking, biking,
