Walking for sanity

by Lyle 'Chip' Chipperson

Created on: September 19, 2011

For the few of us, we need to step out of our homes and take a nice stroll into the element. Whether it's the hot balmy days of summer, or the brutal chill of winter, we need to keep our sanity. For me, I need to walk almost each day to keep things intact and to keep my creativity with it's boost. Or just after I wake up, I walk out of the house to not be tempted to go back to bed. The walking tempts me to stay awake, when caffeine fails to do it's trick.

When it comes to walking, I would always prefer a 45 to 70 degree (Fahrenheit) day with mostly sunny skies with no threats a major rain storm or thunder coming around the corner. But you know best that this isn't always the case. With the four seasons, you can expect what the weather would be like on which specific season but for me, It's not always sunny and 45-70 degrees out, especially the state of Michigan. It snows till mid-April over here.

Besides my preferences, I also enjoy warm and hot days such as 85 degree plus days. It gives you the opportunity to sweat those pounds off while getting your fresh air. In addition to that, it's a good tool to fight obesity.

A cold day doesn’t allow much of a possibility to allow us to drop the pounds as much as a winter day. In fact, overall, we gain weight during the winter months and even the holidays ensures that our rear ends are going to expand in size.

Some of us take walks that last more than a half-hour, and hour or even two hours. When I had a couple days off in a row in May, I took a long ten mile walk, hitting my hometown Roseville, a town south called Eastpointe and also getting Jefferson Avenue in saint Clair Shores and back to my home in Roseville. It maybe insanity to most, but it was a walk in paradise to me with a Detroit Tigers game playing in my MP3 player. Included into that walk was Ten Mile Road between Harper Avenue to Jefferson Avenue. Making a turn north on Jefferson Avenue to see some of Lake St. Clair. I dream of my future home being on one of these roads, let’s hope it happens soon. But until then, we walk for sanity.
