What to do with grass cuttings

A very valuable commodity, not a nuisance. It also depends on where you live, rural or suburban, and if you are using a grass collecter attachment to your mower.

Suburban:
1. Spread short clipping on a large dark plastic or tarp to dry. After a couple of hours, with a pitchfork turn the grass to dry thoroughly.
2. Find an enterprising youngster in the community to take the clippings from you and sell them to a landscaping company, for mulch on lawn-less home sites, or to feed to backyard rabbits. Save yourself shoe leather and time by letting the kid canvass the neighborhood.

3. Sell them yourself if you are the kind who doesn't mind beating some budding entrepeneur out of a few dollars.

Rural:
1. Dry them in the above fashion and store as silage for feeding goats, cows, sheep, rabbits, etc., during extra snow.
2. Dump around rosebushes and other flowers, as mulch.
3. Useful around gardening plants to retain moisture and discourage weeds.
4. Stuff a zippered piece of ticking and use for a dog bed.
5. Stuff a larger piece of cloth and offer use as a mattress on the floor for unwanted visiting relatives.
6. Spread on the floor of the outhouse to keep from tracking mud inside, or for other emergencies.

If you don't have a grass catcher, why worry about it. The short clipping can filter down into the thick thatch of lawn and add extra cushion.
