There are plenty of reasons to resist the desire to buy a new car. There are too many reasons list in one article but I will give my top five reasons. Buying a new car does not have the perks as it may seem other than conversation talk. Buying used is a better choice because of price, car history, insurance, maintenance and heartache.
Price
When buying a new car you are paying top dollar for something which may not be top dollar. Some cars when they leave the dealership may have a recall on them. Do you really want to be the guy/gal who buys new car, brags only to have it recalled? Looks like the used car was a better option. It is hard to negotiate the price when buying new. When buying used you can negotiate the price based on previous history. I.E if the owner didn't take well care of it, but you have connections on good mechanics then buying used is far better buy.
Car history
When buying new you have to hope you bought a model which isn't going to give you problems. When you buy used you can do your research on the car and check out what consumers have problems with. Whereas new cars you can only go based on what the experts are telling you. When you buy new you are likely to have problems with unexpected expenses.
Insurance
When you buy new you are going to have higher insurance rates. There are cases where buying new is a better buy in terms of insurance. When buying used if the model is discontinued then you will have higher insurance rates. In most cases, when you buy used your insurance will be lower. There are other factors such how long you have you license, driving history and etc.
Maintenance
When you buying new you probably won't have to worry about maintenance as much, but there that doesn't mean problems won't occur as frequent as a new car. When buying used you have an idea what the maintenance costs will be based on the vin number of the car or the car history. Maintenance costs for most cars are covered under the warranty most certified pre-owned cars are covered under warranty. When dealing with any type of warranty be sure to ask questions.
Heartache
So you just bought a new car trying to keep up with the Jonses. The peer pressure of trying to fit in finally got to you and now you regret it. You were fine with your used car, but the hecklers kept on heckling and you caved. Now you are stuck with a new bill for the sake of trying to please the hecklers. Word of advice DON'T DO IT.
There are many reasons to resist the desire to buy a new car. So many people try to put on a show because they have a new car meanwhile they are financially hurting. Good luck!
