Summer is a busy time for Joanne with four children between the ages of 9 and 15. The twins are 15 and they want to do nothing but talk on the phone, text their friends, and of course drive. They have their drivers permits and will get their license in two months. They also have school activities. Carl is in football and Chelsey is in cheerleading. They both have practice just about every day of the week. Amber is 12 and she wants to be just like Chelsey so she has joined cheerleading too. She also found a love for playing the trumpet and took up band. Now she has practice just about every day for these two extracurricular activities. Then there is the youngest Fern. She is 9 and did not follow the lead of the other girls. She took up dance and acrobatics. She has lessons two times a week. On top of all the extra activities, Joanne still has her normal activities of grocery shopping, cleaning house, paying bills, cooking food, and all of the other ins and outs of the day.
After a full day, Joanne knows her time will come. All of the children take their baths, finish their chores, and settle down in bed. It makes for a late night, but it is piece. Joanne stands in the shower, thankful there are no yells through the house, there is no dinner burning on the stove, there is no place she has to run to, and there is no children asking of her time. There is just her and her shower. The water seems to wash away the day and relax her. She can stop and think. Even if the days are busy and she doesn't stop, she feels she can go no further or she just simply needs to sit down for a minute, she knows there will be that short time at the end of the day. Joanne loves her life and cherishes every moment with each child. She would not trade it for the world. But she would not trade her shower for the world either, because this is her favorite time of day. Without it, she might just go insane.
