When your business is based in the home you need to be able to market it successfully but without spending much money so that you are able to reap the rewards and continue to work. Large businesses are able to plough in millions of dollars to marketing and sales but as a small home-based business you need to find avenues which are low cost and actually there are several ways in which you can do this.
Marketing is essential to a business, without it you will lack sales, you will not have continued revenue and you will find your business having to fold so it is important to take marketing extremely seriously. In order to do this you need to firstly know everything about your business, what are it's selling features? What makes it unique? What would make it sound appealing? Once you know the answers to these questions you can then set out on your way to marketing it successfully.
* Think Local.
Local business can be what you rely on to make your living. It is important, therefore, that you advertise locally so that people within your area are aware of what you are offering. You could pay to have an advertisement within your local paper or ring up your local paper to ask if you can feature in an article where you will be able to explain what it is that you are offering and some background information. Sometimes advertisements like this are free or cost very little so it will not set you back hugely from a financial viewpoint.
Visit local places which you may find business from. This will largely depend upon what kind of a business you are but there are opportunities like this for many kinds of businesses. If you are making and selling cakes then visit local hotels or restaurants and take examples with you of what you offer. If you are restoring furniture then visit your local antiques shop and talk to them about opportunities that they may have. If you are making baby gifts then why not visit some play groups and parent and toddler groups to show them some examples?
Drop leaflets through peoples' doors or put them up in your local library or post office windows. Sometimes you may need to pay a fee to have your leaflet in a shop/community window but it is usually a very small fee and it can generate some good local interest.
