The most dangerous reality TV shows

by Lisa Fagan

Based on my watching them, and to the best of my knowledge, here are just a few of the most dangerous reality shows on TV; not necessarily in order.

1. The Biggest Loser. A group of overweight people stay together at a house somewhere in California. They do some of the most extreme exercises ever; especially for overweight people. They have both Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper screaming and yelling in their faces like drill sergeants to keep moving; even though the contestants may be out of breath and just can't do it anymore. (Note: Jillian Michaels left the show in May of 2011. Dolvett Quince took her place.) Some of these people even get upset and they start crying. These people may be out to lose weight, but they should not be doing any strenuous exercises. Any doctor will tell you to start out slowly, and then gradually increase. They could seriously hurt themselves. Then the show and NBC will have one big fat lawsuit on their hands. Don't ever engage in any physical activity that you're not capable of doing.

2. Survivor: Although I never watch Survivor, this show is dangerous as well. This show makes Gilligan's Island look more  like a night at the Ritz. Can you imagine being on an island in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of other people to fend for themselves, to be cut off from civilization, to eat bugs, roll around in the mud, and sleep outside in a tent in all kinds of weather just to win a million dollars? (Michael Skupin, a Survivor: The Australian Outback contestant, fell into a campfire. He was severely burned, and he had to be evacuated.) They go to places that I would never even dream of visiting such as Africa, Central America, the Fiji Islands, Borneo, the Amazon Rain Forest, China, the Australian Outback, Thailand, and Micronesia. I certainly hope that these contestants get vaccinated before they compete on Survivor. You never know what kind of diseases they can pick up.

3. The Amazing Race: As much as I love The Amazing Race, I personally would never ever compete on this show. Twenty-four contestants (twelve teams of two people) go racing around the world to perform some of the most stupidest, the most unsanitary, and even most dangerous tasks ever just to win a million dollars. For example:  in New Zealand, teams had to step into a vat of grapes and crush them with their bare feet. (Somebody could have got sick from that.) In Hawaii, they had to carry a pig and get it ready for a luau. Some of the teams dropped the pig into
