Workplace horror stories

Everyone obviously has some of a horror story, but my experiences in the military, have truly given me some incredible ones. While serving in Iraq for a 4 month tour, I found myself flying down the road in an army truck, wondering where the hell we were going. It seemed like we had already gone for a hundred miles through massive stretches of nothing but sand.

When we eventually stopped and dismounted, a good 50 of us, all huddled around, began drinking from our canteens and we hear a scream out in the distance. At first we don't think anything of it, assuming that we were all hearing things. We looked around a bit but didn't realize where it was coming from. After several minutes without a noise, we resumed eating and refueling our bodies. Eventually we heard a loud scream in the distance and rushed over to see what was happening, cautious to ensure that we weren't running into a trap.

Open coming over a massive dune, we found a small boy running in circles and we couldn't figure out why at first. It looked as if he was running from dead balls of grass, but upon closer look, we noticed that he had obviously come in contact with several camel spiders. If you don't know, a camel spider is a massive spider that is capable of running at incredible speeds, jumping as high as a camel, and have been known to kill humans and a variety of animals. These spiders were one of the most feared creatures in the desert and we knew that we had to take extreme measures to ensure that they weren't in our bads at night while trying to sleep.

Immediately we began running towards this boy that was obviously bleeding profusely. He had spiders hanging from his body and eventually fell to the ground. We started smacking at the spiders in an attempt to help the boy, but by the time we got all of the spiders away from him, he already suffered severe injuries and had died. We looked closely at his body and he was missing large chunks of flesh, and his entire body was swollen from the toxin the spiders inject. You could see massive bubbles of pus beneath his skin that had begun to seep, and a combination of puke and blood was all over the ground. In the intense sun, we could smell the blood, pus, and flesh cooking and many around began throwing up at what they had just seen.

As we would with any of our own casualties, we scooped the kid up and threw him in the truck to take back to camp. By the time we arrived at camp, we looked in the back only to realize that we didn't remove all of the camel spiders. He had several smaller spiders that had gone into his body and were coming out of his throat. After a close examination by doctors, it was dtermine that he died from suffocation. Apparently the spiders had gone into his lungs and eventually he died from lack of air to his body. The last view that I had of the kid was of him about 5 times his orginal size, swollen all over his entire body, including his forehead and other areas that you just don't expect to see swollen. His body was torn up and he had lost so much blood that his body was completely void of any life. He looked as if he had been dead for quite some time, but in reality it was fairly recent. This was one of the most disturbing things that I ever saw, and definitely one hell of a horror story.
