You go to church
You expect to be fed
The word of God
Penetrating through
To your heart and head
Times are tough
You know you need more
You think the church is there for
The people in need
And the scriptures agree
So you go for the help
You and your family needs
The church should be able to give
Food, clothing, or just some bread
You get there hopes high
But they give you some reply
About building a new steeple
You are sent away helpless
Relying only on forgiveness
For you have just seen
The dark side of humanity
Material before people
Greed leads to poverty

Nature's Seeds
Sun stained face
Coloured black from the rays
Bathed in a continuous flow
Of salty stenched
by Bill Yuska
Dirty and unkempt greets the morn,
Wondering why it came to be so torn.
Played the game by the golden rule,
Just to become
His poverty was quite profound;
Being bereft of many basic needs,
Sustained from day to day
Partly by others' charitable deeds.
Why don’t you listen?
Are you deaf to the cries?
When someone comes to you for help,
Why do you run away and hide?
I look into the eyes poverty and it makes me cry.
This poverty causes you great pains.
I can see it in your battle
