Well, its almost that time of year again. Time to clean out all the junk you've accumulated over the winter, and give it to someone else. Here are a few organization tips to help you manage a successful garage sale.
One Month Before Garage Sale
1.Pick a date. While you can't always bet on the weather, it is a good idea to schedule your garage sale ahead of time. Saturdays are usually the best day for garage sales, starting at around 7:00am and ending at 1:00pm.
2.Let neighbors know. Send a flyer out letting your neighbors know when you will be having a garage sale, and inviting them to join you. The more houses on a particular street that have a garage sale the more likely people will drive by and stop.
Two Weeks Before Garage Sale
1.Gather and Organize: Decide what it is that yo want to get rid of. Separate Items into categories, such as furniture, games, toys, videos, and clothing. Find a space, such as the garage or office to keep items in until the big day. Make sure you protect fragile items, and keep them in a secure location. Items that tend to sell best at garage sales are: Toys, Kids Books, Movies, and rare items. Glasses and dishes don't do to well, and neither does adult clothing.
2.Advertise. You don't always have to place an ad in the local newspaper, especially if your home is on or near a main street, but it is sometimes a good idea, especially if you are having a street sale. If it is a street sale you can always ask neighbors to pitch in on the cost. Also, most cities have websites and forums where people can post their garage sales free, so do a search and see what you can find.
3.Add Price Tags. I know a lot of people who prefer to do this the day of or night before, but I like to be prepared. Small white stickers work great, just add your price. It is best to go in increments of $0.25, but once you get past the $5.00 go up by $1.00. Note: When deciding how to price your items, remember that people go to garage sales for deals, so price accordingly.
Night Before a Garage Sale
1.Hang your signs. This is an absolute must. Place Garage Sale signs, with address and date of sale, in strategic locations. If there are more than one possible route to your home make sure you place signs in all entry points. Make sure your signs are easy to read and won't fly away. Signs of he same color will help people find your home.
2.Make sure you have enough change. There is nothing worse then getting to a garage sale, wanting an
