Poetry: Don't tempt me

by P. M. Montgomery

I see you over there,
Across the room…
I try not to look at you,
But I keep stealing a glance.

You look so good; so bad.
I know I need to resist you,
But the temptation is so great.
Should I take the chance?

I dart furtive peeks at him,
But he is not watching me.
I glide toward you,
On feet that want to prance.

Now, before he sees, quickly I grab you,
And take a little nibble,
You evil chocolate cupcake you,
My taste buds do a dance!

I sneak another look at him,
He has not missed me yet,
I quickly gobble the rest of you.
Before he looks at me askance.

Mmm, that was so yummy,
Well worth the deceit.
Now to make it back to him
Before temptation gets another chance.
