The room is still
The light shines through the blinds
We wake, the sun glows, the birds sing
The cat stirs
it winds its tail through your fingers
Your free hand glides into mine
We curl around each other
So this is married life?
The alarm clock sounds in the distance
We tumble out of bed
You guide my feet into bunny slippers
I help you with your robe
Outside, the church bells are twirling
Slamming against one another
Calling all to the gates
And yet, you and I
As we’ve said before and now again
Have already found Heaven
Our backs are bent downward
Our hair as white as newly fallen snow,
and our arms, lined with wrinkles
Lock together as we walk through the park
Remembering the days when we were young
Kissing them softly
And letting them go
We find our way to our favorite breakfast spot
Let the hymns play on as we sip hot coffee
Let the verses whisper as we laugh together
For as those who have seen the world
Felt the joys of youthful years and watched them run away
We know full well that
The Lord goes where love grows
We will share this day from outside stained glass
Finding salvation in a stack of pancakes, tub of butter
And the spheres of each others gaze

Poetry: Aging
Years slowly settle on us, like the dust
In layers first invisible, then white
Borne by the unsuspecting air, it must
Upon
Aging doesn't bring just wrinkles and gray hair
But wisdom and experience - a powerful pair
When I look in the mirror as
The room is still
The light shines through the blinds
We wake, the sun glows, the birds sing
The cat stirs
it winds its tail
You ask, "How are you?" Before I answer, let me say:
I have always had a vegetable garden - for over fifty years
I have watched

What do you know of aging?
Your first gray hairs peek out
like frightened ducks near the blind,
your bones protest a bit too
