Best Books on Disciplining Children
The most challenging task of parenting is disciplining your child. Parenting books are excellent resources and are capable of altering a behavior in an instant.
Here are a number of book titles that stand out among the million discipline books being sold at the book stores. These specific book titles have been extremely useful for disciplining a nine, seven, four, and three year old.
Boundaries With Kids by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend (includes a work book) How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish How To Discipline Your six to twelve year old…Without Losing Your Mind by Jerry L. Wyckoff, Ph.D., and Barbara C. Unell Creative Correction Extraordinary Ideas for Everyday Discipline by Lisa Whelchel The five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman & Ross Campbell, M.D.
Each one of these books is unique; and contains valuable techniques that a parent might not consider without reading these referential tools.
What do these books have to offer?
The “Boundaries With Kids” book and workbook trains parents how to set boundaries to avoid living a child centered home. Children who are the leaders of the home promote chaos and confusion. Authorities should be the adults; therefore, this book trains parents how to set limits and lead a home in the direction of peace and stability.
The book “How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk” is a valuable tool. This book teaches that communication is highly important; to maintain an open line of communication and build healthy parent/child relationships, parents must learn to respect their child by knowing when to listen and when to talk.
“How to Discipline Your Six to Twelve Year Old…Without Losing Your Mind” is very useful when your child has grown out of corporal punishment. No child enjoys cleaning, so this book teaches a win-win solution for practical parenting tips. A parent can relax in a nice clean home, while correcting misbehaviors that lead to a peaceful environment.
The “Creative Correction Book” is extremely fun! This book adds a sense of humor to the everyday mundane misbehaviors that sometimes drains every last ounce of energy in you. For example, your child stomps off in frustration; you kindly explain to him or her that he or she must stomp on concrete for a set time. The expression on the child’s face is priceless! It should only take one time for that type of offense, but a lifetime of laughable memories.
The final book on “The Five Love Languages of Children” is by far the best recommended book of all. Without knowing how to love your child there will never be a personal connection. Children who feel unloved feel an emotional void; but let us not forget that emotional voids must be fulfilled whether negative or positive. This book alone will show you your child’s love language and eliminate behavior issues that stem from feeling unloved.
It doesn’t matter which book you choose to read first; each book title will teach you valuable lessons that you will keep referring to in times of chaos.
