A boring blog will surely detract visitors to your site. If traffic is what you need, or want, spicing up your boring blog is a must.

Whether your blog is for entertainment purposes, educational, or business reasons, without readers, the blog doesn't really serve any purpose.

A blogger must constantly be thinking creatively to spice up their blog, and keep interest alive. Your blog should be current, up to date, and utilize different techniques to attract readers. Keywords will help bring you viewers, but if your blog is boring, chances are they won't stay on the page long enough to read your posts.

Here are some suggestions to help add interest to your blog:

1. Add media. This can be photographs, videos, or music. Educational research has shown that as humans we like to utilize our senses. By opening up our sight and sound senses, we are already more interested in what is happening.

2.  Vary your style. Some days write a long post. Some days, make it brief.

3.  Use dialogue. If your blog is for entertainment purpose, this is easy. If for education or business, this may be a bit more tricky. Try interviewing someone in a position that relates to your blog. Use quotes.

4.  Create a poll for your readers. This is fun, engaging and sparks interest.

5.  Offer a contest. Give something away. Post a picture and ask for a caption. Start a "name our new mascot" contest. The contests can vary. Be creative, keep it fun, and give away a prize if possible!

6.  Speak plainly. Keep long words to a minimum. Readers on the Internet are quickly bored by complex wording and run-on sentences.

7.  Encourage comments. Make sure your comment widget enabled. You can learn a lot about your readers this way, and see what they like and what they haven't. Always respond to your comments whenever possible. This shows that you are reading them, and appreciate reader's responses.

8.  Write in first or second person. Readers can then relate to the blog, and identify with you, the blogger.

9.  Use personal stories or anecdotes. People love glimpses into other's lives. This is why Reality TV is so popular. You don't need to be revealing, just a little personal.

10. Choose a nice theme. Keep the colors fun, but appropriate. Don't use generic themes and colors offered by blogging sites. These blogs can just be lost in the shuffle of blogs found on the Internet.

Spicing up a boring blog can be a challenge, but it can be fun one. By using trial and error method, you can see what really works for your readers. Be creative!

Keep an eye on your site stats, watch your numbers and popularity grow, and most of all, have fun with it. If you are having fun with it, chances are your readers will be able to tune into that, and enjoy the blog as much as you do!
