The system of the world on all levels has been restructured based on the computer and it is now impossible to live life without it. When we talk about computers we think of the Internet first of all. It is indeed part of our lives. With the discovery and invention of the world wide web, barriers in all aspects of everyday life be it in businesses, education, health system and in private homes have been eliminated. The computer is a multitasking gadget which allows anyone anywhere to work from home, socialize with friends all over world, maintain regular communication with distant family, watch movies ,play games and do much more without leaving the comfort of the home. It gives individuals the freedom to manage their time when it comes to work online and be their own boss and also provide an ever-welcome stress relief whenever they feel lonely, or had a long and difficult bad day.
Without a doubt we rely a lot on computers to get through the day and the question here is: Are we too dependent on computers? The answer is a resounding "yes we are".
Like the spider which silently crawls across the concrete wall of the back garden and gains entrance inside the house, in a subtle way, computers have crawled across our lives and have established their solid world wide web around us. We now live in a virtual world without acknowledging it because we don't feel or sense its presence but it is invisibly well established among us.
Two sides of the same coin
For sure the computer is a great tool. It has defied time, improved services and support, revolutionised the way businesses are conducted, created jobs online and has proved to be fast and reliable but is there a hidden and dangerous side to it. What if it was a huge mousetrap, a real powerful electronic tool or web in the hands of a few evil people or elite waiting to prey on people of the world and make slaves out of us? What if they were using it to control our lives?
What if we were purposely made to be too dependent on computers for specific reasons?
My mum always told me that one day the world will be ruled by electronic machines. At that time I was wondering how? Now this is somehow true. We are not literally controlled by robots with arms and legs but one way or the other through those electronic way of doing things we are.
Payroll system, medical record, tax office, insurance companies, pension fund, credit report companies, banking system, ID cards, social security...you name it, computers
