Seeing the same colors and décor in a room day after day can become boring. Walking into a newly redecorated room can be exhilarating. Even during budget crunching times there are some inexpensive, even a few free ways, to redecorate your home.
• Decorating tips that cost you absolutely nothing
Look through your basement, closets, cabinets, and anywhere else in your house where you have unused items stored. Chances are you will find some household décor items, bed ensembles, possibly some pieces of art or photos that you’ve packed away, a lamp, some accent rugs, or any number of previously used items that could be brought out, cleaned, and repurposed to redecorate you house. You might even find some gifts that you packed away unopened just waiting for the right opportunity to use them.
Another possibility for finding free items to redecorate with is your parent’s house. You might find a treasure chest of items packed away in their basement or attic that they would be happy to have moved out of their way. If they happen to be contemplating a move to downsize, you might really acquire a new collection of items to use to redecorate your home. Don’t overlook the possibility of refurbishing and updating items from a different era.
Almost everyone gets bored looking at the same décor day after day. You might want to have a furniture and accessory exchange party with some friends, co-workers, neighbors, or family members. A swap such as this is an excellent way to acquire some unique items to use in a redecorating project. There are lots of things you can do to make the item you swapped for more personalized to your decorating style.
One final suggestion for redecorating without spending money is to simply rearrange what you have in your home. Switch tables, chairs, lamps, artwork, plants, accent rugs, and numerous other items from one room to another. If possible, use the switched items in a totally different way in another room. For example, move two ottomans from the living room to the bedroom. Place them side by side at the foot of the bed to create a convenient sitting area.
• Redecorate with items you pay little for
Spend a little time rummaging through consignment shops, flea markets, yard sales, and estate sales to find hidden treasures at incredibly low prices. Always bargain for a lower price. Keep in mind, there are frugal ways to make slightly damaged, faded, or out dated items look new.
