The basics of Internet surfing for beginners

by Mr Teacher

Created on: August 14, 2011

People are getting on the Internet more quickly than we used to ten years ago, and it is all due to the pervasiveness of the Internet into almost every area of our lives. These days a feature rich web browser will get anyone started on the basics of Internet surfing which is a term used for riding the waves in cyberspace pretty much like how a professional surfer would do on real rushing tidal waves in the ocean.

So how does one get onto the Internet anyway? What kinds of equipment would be best suited for the ultimate web experience? The answer to that probably lies with the kind of equipment that you are willing to fork out right at the buying computer stage. While many will argue the benefits of buying a fast computer that has the ability to burn tracks in the world wide web, the fact of the matter is, for the newbie, the Internet can be a very scary mesh of information. Where does one really start?

Taking up a short course on the basics of Internet surfing is probably the way to go to understand how the Internet got started in the first place and how from its military origins, it is now fast becoming a mainstay of how people search or research for information as well as it becoming a standard medium for ease of communications. The writing of a letter is now expressed electronically in the form of an electronic mail or e-mail as the creators term it. With a click of a button, chucks of information can be communicated in byte size bits of data from one sender to recipient or even to many recipients. It has caused a paradigm shift in the way corporations work as well as how people behave socially.

Perhaps the easiest way to get onto the Internet is to understand the tools as mentioned earlier. Getting the right operating system can alleviate the level of frustration and speed up the learning process. To date the Mac Apple notebook has got to be the fastest computer there is on the market. The computer start-up time for the latest Macbook laptop computer will wow any newbie or seasoned computer geek to tears. The start-up time is virtually unnoticeable. Once the operating system loads, a click of the Safari web browser immediately launches the user into the world wide web. That in essence is as simple as it gets to getting onto the Internet for those who have no computer experience at all. It is almost like a two step process - start up and launch the web browser.

A good default web page to load into your web browser would be that of a search engine, this is presupposing that anyone getting onto the Internet would at the very basic level be interested to search for information. Search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN are just a few that should get the newbie started on the basics. Perhaps the most simple of the three would be Google. It is like a text box with almost nothing else to complicate the user experience. Just type into the text box field and anyone would already be surfing. It is as easy as that.
