We came back
dressed in black.
You placed your good shoes on the floor
beside the closet door,
and we were
quiet.
I sat down on our makeshift bed
and hung my head
while you
moved things around the room
and tried to chase away the gloom
that seemed so thick and dark and silent.
You don't know how much I hurt
underneath it all,
But when the tears begin to fall
I build another wall-
a wall that you can't climb,
getting higher all the time.
And I can lay beside you
but in this darkness I can't find you.
In this pain we pay no mind to,
baby, I can't find you-
I can't find you at all,
so let's just build another wall
build another wall...
We came back
dressed in black,
and we sat
holding back
holding everything back.
I don't want to
disturb your composure, but
this silent non-disclosure
hoovers over...
we can't breathe
and we don't grieve...
and I know that you're so lost
underneath it all
but when the tears start to fall
you build another wall-
a wall that I can't climb
getting higher all the time.
I can lay here beside you,
so afraid I'll never find you-
here in the dark
where I can't remind you...
can't say anything at all,
so we build another wall
we build another wall.
