• Encourage healthy habits early on
It is imperative to introduce children to healthy nutritious foods from the weaning stage, as they will come to appreciate flavorsome and wholesome foods. Offering a wide variety of different fresh foods will encourage healthy eating habits that will continue as they grow. Avoid processed foods, as these contain artificial ingredients, salt and sugars which are not healthy. Children may come to appreciate and enjoy fresh food if it is introduced early on, and they will benefit from good nutrition. A growing child needs key nutrients and vitamins from a healthy varied diet to be able to grow and develop healthily.
• Varied and interesting
Keep their diet interesting and varied by introducing a wide range of different foods. Offer a diverse array of colorful foods to ensure their diet is balanced. A child that is introduced to a variety of different foods, is more likely to eat a wider range of foods, and this can prevent them from becoming a fussy eater. Try various different cooking methods to create different tasting dishes to keep food interesting.
• Model good eating habits
It is essential to model good habits by ensuring that other members in the family follow a healthy diet to set the precedence. Children naturally follow by example, so it is vital to set a good example. Ensure to stock the kitchen with healthy nutrient-rich foods, and limit and refrain from having foods that are unhealthy, as they cannot have what they don’t miss.
