Poetry: Demons

by Joanna Maharis

Created on: August 12, 2011   Last Updated: August 13, 2011

There is a storm that brews within my darkened soul that wreaks from the ashes my body has become, because of the demon's breath that ignited my flesh with hell's fire, and tore my lungs apart.  He put his hands around my layered neck that shed it's remains, and the demon squeezed into my chiming bones that cried with terror, and trembled from the bite from his glazed red teeth.  I tune in to the horrific brigade that serenades the Prince of the Underworld with the sounds of the demon's nails scraping against the concrete to sharpen the torture he wills on me.  I dance into the flames, and send my spirit up into the smokey ceiling in the hopes that it will at least soar up through the darkness, and find a breakthrough that will transport it up to the heavens.  By God's loving hands, I was embraced and lifted out of the flames, and taken into the golden light, and welcomed into the gates of Heaven.
