What could have more appeal to a young kid than running around kicking a ball? Soccer is probably the most kid-compatible sport of them all, and permits all kids an equal chance for success.

The trend towards soccer makes all the sense in the world for kids because everyone knows how to run. Since young boys develop their motor skills somewhat slower than girls do, a very level playing field exists between them. The act of kicking a ball while on the run with accuracy is great for improving motor skills. One other key point is that the cost of equipment is almost non-existent.

Another element to the sport is that the rules are exceedingly simple. Even very young children can learn the basics of the game in no time at all. As a parent, I appreciate the fact that soccer burns up a lot of energy and helps kids stay in shape physically.

Probably the most key point of them all is the fact that playing soccer is no more dangerous than normal play is for a youngster. All kids grow up getting their fair-share of skinned knees and turned ankles, which is about as dangerous as it gets. Any parent who has watched the faces of the kids running around, kicking the ball, and once in a while scoring a goal understands the appeal of the game to all who play it.
