The world as we know it now is so different than when we were children. Back then we could walk up and down the street without worries. The activities we enjoyed were simple. Activities such as bouncing a ball against a wall, or going down to the creek to try and find frogs, that we used to tease our other playmates. We would play hide and seek, running around just laughing and having fun.
Now days, children don't play. They hang out. Children don't get out in the fresh air, they stay glued to a computer, in a fantasy world, talking to strangers. Twelve year old children play games that require avatars that they build, that wear vulgar clothes, and act in a manner that would not have been approved of in the past. It is difficult for parents to communicate with their children. It is also difficult for a parent to monitor what is going on when a child has their face in a computer all day long.
In the past, we would schedule family vacations where all the members of the family participated. It was a time that was looked forward to, where good, wholesome activities were planned. Now, children sulk about having to go somewhere with their families. If they do go, they sit in the car with headphones on their head, listening to music that not only pollutes their minds, but gives them ideas that should not be put in their heads. Children ride in the cars with their face glued to a Gameboy, not enjoying the beautiful scenery outside the car.
Today, we have kids that are in the 5th and 6th grade, skipping class, and wandering off campus. Into a world of strangers that would love to get their hands on young, innocent children. Children are naive and give no thought to the dangers in the world today. They don't worry about the "cool guy" in the "cool car". Parenting can be difficult. We cannot be all places at one time. When we are at work, we expect our children to be in school. Back when we were in 5th grade we gave no thought to skipping school. We sat in our classroom, looking out the windows, daydreaming about being outside in the air to play ball.
Parents today have much more to worry about. Making it very difficult to be a parent. All we can do is hope that we can instill our morals in them. We hope that when they are presented with a difficult decision, they can easily say no, and walk
