Is the ceiling falling down on your head? Are the walls crumbling with more cracks and protuberances than you can count? Are the wooden parts turning a nasty shade of black? Or perhaps, a tricky leak threatens to bring about the destruction of a whole part of your home? If so, then it is just the right time to think of renovating that which is way past its glory. Although doing the work all by yourself may be tempting at first, do not be deceived by the seemingly lowers costs and do make the right choice – hire a general contractor to enjoy professional results.
For a start, a professional possesses the necessary knowledge, skill and experience. An amateur cannot compete with him concerning quality and speed. The general contractor will do a better job – the walls will be as smooth as silk with no ugly drops of paint. Moreover, the lines between different colors will be clearly defined and you can experiment with intricate patterns. If there is a design peculiarity in your home, not properly positioned pipes or slightly tilted walls, the professional can handle this problem and come up with an effective solution. His design suggestions are also not to be overlooked – he has painted a lot of rooms and he knows which colors/patterns look good and which do not. A professional versed in renovating knows tricks which save valuable building material thus significantly reducing costs. You may dilute paint either too much or too little and end up with a poorly painted surface. Also, did you know that when painting the ceiling, the first layer is perpendicular to the rays of light and the second is horizontal? The professional certainly did.
Second, the general contractor will do the work for you. Avoiding heavy labor should not be thought of as luxury but as the norm. If not properly done, work with building materials may cause health damage – some solutions are detrimental to the skin while others exude poisonous fumes and require breathing masks. A professional renovator will take these risks for you. Additionally, renovation involves lots of heavy lifting so you can develop hernia or back ache if you are not well-built. Think of renovation as a time for vacation without the need to worry whether the coat of paint will be uneven or the new water system will be faulty – let the professional worry about such things.
Third, it is cheaper to hire a general contractor. The professional has all the necessary equipment, will do a swift job and enjoys preferential prices at the building store. Although things may appear cheaper if you do them yourself, the cost of equipment eventually overtakes the fee for the professional. Moreover, you will have to take a leave from work which will be deducted from your salary. In conclusion, you are left feeling absolutely obliterated with reduced income and fairly similar expenses.
To sum it up, hiring a general contractor will be faster, safer, cheaper, immaculately done and with no effort required from you. So why take the chance when there is such a clearly better option?
