A visitor's guide to Orlando, Florida museums

Orlando, Florida is a fantastic place to have fun with your family, and if the local theme parks are not on your list to do, you could have fun in a totally different way, by visiting one of the many fantastic museums Orlando has to offer.

“Orlando Science Center”

This is a wonderful place to take your children, they have hands on fun for all ages and all this fun is located indoors. The entire environment inspires curiosity and the desire to explore, like looking through the huge “skywatch” telescope, or taking in a laser light show. The center has been in business for over fifty years and has several engaging interactive exhibits to delight everyone.

OMA – “Orlando Museum of Art”

This museum has contemporary American art collections covering the last thirty years. It hosts more than one hundred and eighty works dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries.

“The Orange County Regional History Museum”

Located at: 65 East central Boulevard, phone number: (407) 836-8500

This five storey building is home to some of the most interesting architectural designs used throughout the entire building, making it like one big exhibit. With the interactive exhibits available the visitor can be whisked back in time more than twelve thousand years. The museum even offers an overnight adventure, in the museum for children!

“Mennello Museum – American Folk”

Located at: 900 East Princeton street, phone number: (407) 246-4278

This small but enchanting museum is actually located in the middle of “Loch Haven Park” in the downtown area. in the grounds of the museum there are biking or walking trails surrounded by “Lake Formosa”. As you walk down the pathways you will notice several different sculptures in a wide range of designs.

“The Well’s Built Museum of African American History & Culture”

Located at: 511 West South Street, phone number (407) 245-7535

This fascinating and historical museum offers the visitor the opportunity to discover the history in a unique way, by taking the “Parramore Historic Walking Tour”, which highlights individuals who made an outstanding contribution to the area and community. Another wonderful tour to embark on here is the “Cultural Tapestry Tour” this is a visual history lesson dating back to the 1500s during the Seminole wars.

Whatever museum you decide to visit, it is sure to be a day filled with fun and interesting facts.
