The workplace can be a scary place. One has to have a certain type of drive and charisma to make it to the top of the career ladder. This can have a draining effect on other areas of the employees life.
The workplace is a very unhealthy environment. Backstabbers, honeys-tuckers and are out on every turn. Having to deal with the myriad of people can be quite death defying at times, and this is enough to be suspicious at every turn. This is especially true when there is a lot of tension in the air, and people are always getting on the wrong side of the stick.
Here are a few tips on how to maintain that competitive edge in the workplace:
1. Employees need to take time off from work. Spending long hours at the office and working too hard can have a very draining effect on the mind, and this needs to be attacked head on.
2. The employee will have to be very assertive, and this will help him/her get that competitive edge in the workplace. He/She must be able to say whats on his/her mind even if he is left to be unpopular with the rest of the staff. The employee will also have to be very careful that other employees do not walk all over him/her.
3. Studying further and getting new skills can actually help employees and keep their competitive edge. Ask the boss for more on the job training or job rotation. This can be a great way to succeed in the long run.
4. If another employee with the same or less years of experience is earning more than you never feel afraid to write a grievance letter to human resources and demand more money if you think that you are worth it. Remember you are what you think.
5. Visit the employee wellness centre if you are experiencing high levels of stress in the workplace. This can be quite helpful if you are overworked and feel that you may be approaching burnout.
6. Maintain high energy levels and enthusiasm for the job. This is a very important point as positive vibrations are infectious at work, and upper management will pick up on this from an employee.
7. Believe in yourself. The corporate world believes in people who believe in themselves and you shall be very successful.
