Do you walk into a new display home and wish that your home looked just like it? Do you find that the display home is no bigger than your own home yet it looks much bigger, feels very spacious and inviting to live in? You can pick up some tips and decorating ideas next time you are strolling through that fabulous new display home which you envy. Use these tips in your own home to achieve the look of a much bigger and more spacious home.

Display homes often have very little furniture in the rooms. The tip is to simplify your furniture and furnishings and de-clutter your home. Too much furniture and too many things in a room make it look busy and unsettling to the eye. This gives the appearance of a much smaller space.

Display homes often have a feature within a living space. Consider creating a focal point so that when you enter the room your eye is naturally drawn to it. Choose one focal point within a room. Options may include to paint one wall as a feature wall in a different color, or make the most of your fireplace, why not select a picture for your wall that works well with your décor or select a charming piece of furniture as a feature element.

Look at the type and style furniture they have chosen. Select light colored furniture that has clean and uncluttered lines. Bulky, dark and fussy furniture can make a room look smaller and dark. Overly patterned upholstery and too many colors can make a room look too busy.

Check out the floor finishes. Dark floor finishes with light colored furniture tends to add depth to the room. Lighter colored carpets create a feeling of space and openness. Polished floor boards add that nice shine and sparkle to your floor and gives the room reflected light.

Display homes often have large windows overlooking a courtyard or into a garden. Large windows allow more light into the room and by coordinating the outdoors with the interior visually make the room appear bigger and more spacious. Simple window treatments also assist with a good uninterrupted view out and allowing more natural light in. Providing good outdoor lighting to your outdoor features like a water fountain, garden sculptures, garden beds and plants adds interest and drama in the evenings.

Light colors to your walls and ceilings give the impression of more space. Follow this with light colored doors, window s, frames and skirtings. Coordinate your colors and finishes throughout your home to create a visual flow from one room to the next.

So next time you are enviously walking through a home you admire, stop and take in a few tips so that you can use or adapt to your own home.
