Parenting tips for helping children develop self-control

punishment i have never used. You can discipline them in other ways without smacking, take one of their favorite toys away from them, don't let them have any friends round again until they realize, they have done wrong, they will soon stop when you take their prized possessions away from them. Sometimes, i,v told my youngest off for something or other, and if he didn't do as he was told after that, i would say to him "come here, sit on that chair in the other room for ten minutes, without moving, and just think about your actions, and when you realize you have done wrong, and you have said sorry, then you can get up and carry on playing" and it certainly works, he would sit there quiet, until i told him the ten minutes were up and he would come and apologize, to me for being naughty. The more you teach your child how to respect you and others, and how they sometimes hurt your feelings the more self control they get, everybody learns by their mistakes in life, its all part of growing up, into who we become. Always teach your child manners, like please and thank you, there's nothing worse than your son or daughter been given something from someone, and them not saying thank you. It doesn't take much to learn these little lessons of politeness, that we all use everyday. There's adults out there who still haven't got any manners, its so, ignorant, and selfish. And its these people who are always moaning that they never get any respect back from others, or their children.

Children learn from their parents from the very beginning of life, their minds are like an empty book, waiting to be written, it can turn out to be a very bad book, or a very good book, of knowledge, of love and understanding, of self control.
We created them, we should mold them, teach them well, let them learn by their mistakes in life, it makes them stronger, wiser, more interesting, with their own special unique personalities.

If the parents have self control, and their children see that in them, then the children will grow to have self control.
