From the first moment I heard about the eBook reader I was very intrigued, but most of the ones I saw were too expensive or just didn't look good and I didn't like the amount of books they offered to download. Now these days most of them offer quite a good amount of books but I was simply convinced by the Amazon Kindle.
You have two versions of the Kindle. You can buy the one with just a Wi-fi connection or the one with Wi-fi and 3G. I bought the last one which costs now 152 pounds. I bought the 3G version because I don't even have Wi-fi at home so I know it was going to be annoying. It was worth the extra money and with the 3G version you have everywhere and anywhere access to the Internet and the amazon shop to buy new books. You can also go onto the Internet but it's not perfect. It's a bit slow, all the webpages are black & white and navigation is a bit awkward because it's not anything like the Ipad. There is no touch screen.
The Kindle is very thin with only 8,5 mm and light with 241 gram. It's 123 mm by 190 mm and fits perfectly in my hand because he's so light it's easier to hold than the average book. The screen itself is 6 inch, so a bit smaller than an average book and under the screen you have a small keyboard. The keyboard is not great for typing a novel but fine for typing a few words. The screen feels very soft on the eyes when reading and it's nothing like a computer screen. I can read for hours and you can adjust the size of the letters. Navigating through the kindle is easy and the buttons are very easy to use.
The kindle can hold up to 3000 books but you can also add other files like mp3 files. Instead of just reading books you have access to newspapers which you can try for free for 14 days. I just use my kindle for reading books but I have tried a mp3 file and although it played, the kindle is clearly not designed for playing music.
With the kindle you have access to the Kindle store on Amazon which give you access to thousands of books and even quiet a large section of free books. Most of them are classic books and some of them are actually quite nice to read again. The price of the books differ and some of them are almost the same price as a paper book which I don't think it fair since a eBook will be a lot cheaper to make then a paper book.
I think the Kindle last with me about one week with one battery charge which is really good. I never have to worry about the battery running out when I go away for the weekend or have to travel for the day. You get a USB cable with the kindle which you can use to transfer books and files from your computer to the Kindle but it's also your cable to can click into your adapter to charge your kindle. Very handy to only have one cable.
I think the Kindle is perfect and the only negative is that ordering books is too easy it just goes straight of my credit card so after I month I suddenly realise I have spent way too much on books! But overall the kindle is really great and easy to use. You don't really need to read the manual to figure out how it works and reading a book feels really great with the screen. I prefer to read a book on a kindle than a paperback book
