Electronic devices such as laptops are at a greater risk against overheating and system/hardware malfunction during the summer season. According to Computer Basement, standard LDC laptops are not “designed to work outside” – much more on an extremely hot weather condition.
The temperature can affect the performance of your laptop. The summer heat poses potential damages to both your laptop’s software and hardware. Hence, it is necessary that you know how to take good care of your laptop on a hot weather in order to prevent any damage or malfunction.
Listed below are several tips on how you can take good care of your laptop during the hot summer season.
1) Always check your laptop’s safe temperature range
Laptop manuals usually indicate a specific safe temperature range. Within the safe temperature range, a laptop can function properly without the need for computer fans and other cooling devices. According to About, a typical laptop can “operate properly in the safe temperature range of 50 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or 10 to 35 degrees Celsius.”
Before using your laptop outdoors, it is necessary that you first check your laptop’s safe temperature range to ensure that it can stand the blistering summer heat.
2) Don’t leave your laptop inside a parked car
Leaving your laptop inside a parked car is a mortal sin when it comes to good laptop care and maintenance. A laptop will absorb the heat of a hot car when it is placed inside it. Obviously, it would be better to just bring your laptop wherever you go.
3) Never expose your laptop in direct sunlight
Exposure to direct sunlight can result into overheating and even the melting of your laptop’s skin. For that reason, you should always keep your laptop inside its bag or case whenever not in use.
4) Limit or at least schedule your laptop usage
Limiting the number of usage hours is another simple yet effective way of protecting and taking good care of your laptop on a hot weather. You can also schedule the use of your laptop. Early mornings and late evenings are the coolest times of the day. Thus, it would be better to work with your laptop during those times.
5) Choose a good, compact laptop bag and laptop case
Choosing a good, compact laptop bag and/or a laptop case is also critical in taking good care of your laptop. Choose a laptop bag or a case that perfectly fits your laptop and that can protect it from damages caused by bumps.
