Unless a couple work on their marriage from the get go, then the marriage is doomed to fail, and will not last forever. Marriages can last forever, if both couples are willing to sacrifice a lot. And it is very hard work indeed, to keep a marriage going for years on end. However he pressure, each year, upon couples within a marriage to keep it ‘fresh’ and ‘new’, can simply be too hard for some.
Marriages tend to work when there is give and take. When couples are prepared to sacrifice for each other, without pulling in different directions. When couples are not arguing and bickering over the least little thing, and threatening to walk out if they do not get their own way. These are the things that can finish a marriage off.
Couples must be extremely loving, and patient with each other. However, to take each other for granted, is one of the biggest sins in a marriage, one can do [other than infidelity.] Within a marriage, if the husband and wife are constantly finding fault, arguing for no reason, and critical of everything that the other does, then this can see a marriage crash and burn.
There has to be understanding on both parts, in order for the marriage to work. Without understanding, and patience, then what is the point of two people being together - or staying married? Problems that arise within a marriage should be met, head on, by both partners. If it is left to one, all of the time then that can see a marriage fail. This is simply because one or the other partner is not ‘pulling their weight’.
If both partners are pulling in different directions then it is time to either talk about it…or split up. A marriage can only work, when both partners are happy and want, more or less, the same things out of the marriage. If is very rare for anyone to hear these days, about people staying married for years on end. This used to happen in the past, when marriages were looked upon as sacred, and sacrosanct..
This is not so much the case anymore, as husbands and wives appear before the divorce courts for all number of reasons. These reasons can range from ‘unreasonable behaviour’ to ‘temper tantrums’, violent abuse [both physical and mental] and many others - including affairs of the heart. However, divorce rates in the States, is 50% plus every year, as couples are more likely to seek divorce, rather than stay together. The immense pressure upon marriages to succeed in this day and age, still sees many marriages fail.
For a marriage to be successful in society today, a couple would have to be extremely in love, not a little lucky too, understanding of each others needs and feelings, and the ability to listen with patience, and an 'open ear' to each other. Without these main ingredients within a marriage, then marriages will continue to fail and will not last forever.
