Rome:Total War. One of the best PC games realeased almost two years ago now.The game boats a superior graphics engine to any other real time strategy(RTS)game on the market.Requirements to play the game are pretty high but if you have the specs the game is defintly worth adding to your collection.

The game is based during roman times and it is your job as one of the three houses of the roman empire to extend the influence of The Roman Empire and conquer the world. The game map extends from Ireland over as far as eastern Europe and down as far as North Aftrice. The game has an overview look and the game itself is played based on turn based strategy.every turn represents one of two seasons-summer and winter.  Different seasons means different weather and different tactics needed for battles. The turn based side of the game involves the player building up his cities which can be captured from any other faction in the game and then recruiting units from these cities in order to fight and defend the land.  Units vary from peasants to archers, to legionnaires to urban cohort. There are also some very impressive cavalary units including the gigantic war elephants which are very effective and funny to watch in battle.

When it comes to the battle resolve screen you can opt for the computer to automatically resolve the battle(no fun) or you can fight the battle yourself in real time where you get to command all the units on the map.You can have anything up to fifty thousand troops on the field at once but the more troops you have the more memory you need in your computer.the battle scenes are very impressive as you can zoom into each individual unit and watch their progress as they slash and hack their way through the enemies in front of them. The battle scenes are so impressive that the game is actually used on the discovery channel in order to demonstrate baattles from ancient times.

The game also has LAN or online play which is great fun because online players offer a new challenge and can be very unpredictable.  I would give this game 5 out of 5 and it is money well spent if you buy this game as gameplay is endless
