Tips for staying connected with teens in a computer age

With a teenager in this new digital age, it is becoming harder and harder to keep up with them as a parent. However, parents in every age have to adapt more and more, and it's time for the modern-age parents to do so. Here is how:

1.) If You Can't Beat Them, Join Them.

You have to find out how your teen is attached to the digital world, first. Do they have Myspace, Facebook, or other social networking site accounts? Make an account, if you aren't technically savvy or don't think your teenager will help you, find out how to make one from someone who does. Knowing what your kid does online is essential to their safety and your keeping up.

2.) Learn the Lingo

Odds are, your teen has an instant messenger. You have probably stumbled in on them messaging with weird acronyms you don't understand. This is where "learning the lingo" comes in. Learn what they mean and watch your child's messages.

3.) Raid, Raid, Raid!

Learn all of your kids passwords and check their files, often. Don't worry about privacy. Safety always comes before privacy as a parent. Never forget that.

Remember all of these rules and you will always be able to keep in check with your teen. Last, never be afraid to ask for help. Pride comes before Safety.
