Simply, the Bible is food for the spirit and as you need to eat to keep your body healthy; you need to read and study the Word of God to keep your spirit healthy. “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15).
The Bible was written as a love letter from God to us so that we could read, study, and learn about Him and what He wants for us in our short lives here and what waits for us in eternity. I don’t think that we would toss a love letter from our new-found love aside and ignore it; we would read it and re-read it. We would look forward to his or her homecoming so that we could be together and we would do everything we could to please them and make them happy. We want a deep relationship with our loved ones and God wants a deep relationship with each of us. “My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away” Song of Solomon 2:10.
The Bible, His love letter to us, strengthens that relationship between Him and us. But it seems we just don’t care enough about God to take the time to delve into His letter. Preachers, teachers, and Christians were once unbelievers too and without the Bible to read and learn from, not one person would understand that they are lost sinners that need to be saved. The reason God inspired men to write was so that we would know and could make the choice to become one of God’s children. The Bible is such a remarkable book that anyone can understand the words written if they are open to the Gospel. The Holy Spirit draws us to the Word and opens up our understanding more and more every time we read the passages. If you are a Christian, you came to be that way because someone read the
