In these tough economic times, finding a job is harder than ever. With more people unemployed, you have even more competition when applying for jobs that have caught your eye. Thus it's important to get every edge you can in the job market. This leads some people to seek help, especially younger people with less experience in the world of work. If you are one of those people, but don't know where to turn to to get help, here's a few places to start.

Jobcentreplus

The job centre website for the UK is hugely useful when trying to get a job. It is a government run website that posts tens of thousands of vacancies for jobs ranging from shop assistants to corporate management. If the area that you're struggling and needing help in is finding jobs that suit your skills and experience, the job centre website is possibly the best place to get help.

The database can easily be searched and filtered to match your specifications exactly, from everything from location to starting salary to working hours. The job centre website also has a whole advice section with articles ranging from how to write a CV to how to behave in an interview and more. For those who are inexperienced in the job market it is simply the best place to go.

Recruitment agencies

Recruitment agencies can be an alternative to getting help from the job centre website. The advantages of these agencies is that you can generally find one for the career or industry that you would like to work in. The disadvantage is that sometimes you will have to pay for the services of these companies depending on the specific firm.

These agencies work by providing advice on how to make yourself more employable for the profession that you want to enter. They can also help you actively search for jobs, taking away some of the stress that comes with trying to find a job. Blue Arrow and Totaljobs are two examples of such companies. They have their own databases of jobs and advice sections. A quick Internet search with your specific career area is a good way to yield an agency which is appropriate for you.

Friends and Family

A rather overlooked resource when you need to get help to find a job is your friends and family. In life people establish a network of contacts through friends and families that can help them throughout life. In this case, you may have friends who work in the industry that you want to work in who can give you tips and advice on how to improve your CV and how to handle interviews for jobs.
