There are many fun craft ideas for children of all ages to complete. Luaus are exciting and unique, and this party theme is great for kids. This article will discuss several fun luau crafts that kids from young to old will enjoy.
Necklace
Making a luau necklace with children is easy and all you will need is tissue paper, glue, a pencil, scissors, and oak tag. Start by cutting a large circle out of the oak tag. Then help children cut a smaller circle out of the middle of the large circle and a line going through the edge of the large circle to the hole. Then help kids rip up pieces of tissue paper and glue them to the entire front of the paper. When the glue dries your craft is complete.
Tiki Mugs
Another easy luau craft that kids of all ages will love is a tiki mug. For this project all you will need is plastic tumblers or glasses, foam shapes, a hot glue gun, glue sticks, and scissors. Help kids decide what they would like their tiki to look like, and cut the shapes appropriately. Then glue the shapes to the mug and your luau craft can be used right away.
Hula Skirt
No luau party is complete without a hula skirt. For this craft you will need green yarn, duct tape, a long piece of cardboard, safety pins, scissors, glue, and fake flowers. Start by cutting several long pieces of yarn. Then cut a long piece of duct tape and pin it sticky side up to the cardboard. Make sure the piece is long enough to go around your child’s waist.
Help kids place the long pieces of yarn next to each other along the length of the duct tape. Then cover the first piece of tape with another piece. Then cut a small hole in each side of the duct tape and add some yarn so the hula skirt can be tied on. Help children decorate the hula skirt with the fake flowers to finish it.
Limbo Stick
A luau themed craft that can double as a party game and favor is a limbo stick. For this craft idea you will need a long stick, colorful ribbon, cord, or yarn, paint markers, glue, beads, and feathers. Kids can decorate the stick with the paint markers in a variety of patterns. Then help children wrap the cord around the end and glue it in place. Make sure to leave some of the cord hanging off the ends so you can add feathers and beads to the ends of the cord.
Ukulele
A ukulele is a famous Hawaiian instrument that kids will get a kick out of making and paying with at a luau. For this project you will need a paper towel roll, a popsicle stick, a needle, an empty cereal box, paint, paintbrushes, fishing line, scissors, duct tape, and glue. Start by helping kids place the cardboard roll inside the cereal box. Use tape to secure it in place and make sure the majority of the roll is sticking out of the box. Then cut the top flaps so the box is closed securely and tape or glue in place.
Then cut a hole in the center of the box where the strings will go. Glue a popsicle stick just below it. Poke four holes in the box right below the stick; make the holes about half an inch apart. Then cut four long pieces of fishing line and stick the ends to a piece of duct tape. Place the tape inside the box right below the four poked holes.
Then pull each piece of fishing line through the poked holes and over the popsicle stick. Next tape the pieces line to the top of the box securely. When this is all complete allow kids to paint the entire box however they like.
Craft projects are especially fun when they are Hawaiian themed; try these craft ideas with children of all ages at your next luau.
