Christianity and the question of "riches"

God created us in His image. The bible tells us that God commanded us to "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
The Jews have never struggled with the concept of being rich. They understand covenant blessing. That is to say that they know their contract that God made for them. Moses reminds his people of this covenant blessing of prosperity in Deuteronomy 8:18, "And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day." In Psalm 112:1-3 the writer states,"Praise the Lord! Blessed it the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, and his righteousness endures forever."

The Jews had an expectation of prosperity and blessing because of the covenant that God provided for them. As Christians, we have an even better covenant through Jesus Christ(Hebrews 7:22), and should expect no less.
God has given us the ability(power) to be successful, to be fruitful, to dominate. I have raised my children telling them that they can do anything they put their mind to. I encourage them to be doctors, lawyers, business owners and such. I tell my daughter that she could be the first woman President of the United States. I'm building up that expectation of success. Jesus said in Mathew 7:11,"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"
I believe it is the responsibility of all believers to generate wealth for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. Ask your self this, could you honestly support another man's living expenses and medical for several days or even weeks? The good Samaritan did.
