Remember—We Are Ambassadors!
Those of us who are called to help in God's end-time Work are a privileged lot. Do we realize it?
With privilege comes responsibility. We are granted the freedoms and benefits of our real homeland (Heb.11:13-16). We are now officially citizens and representatives of the highest Government in the entire universe! We are part of the new, coming Government of God!
This world is composed of many governments—and they interact. Nations trade and deal with one another. And so, there is a need to communicate with one another. There is a need for diplomatic agents, and so, nations send ambassadors to other nations representing their home government in an official manner.
These ambassadors are given special privileges by the nations in which they reside. They are recognized for their high office. They represent another government and are subject to the laws of their home government, so special consideration is given them.
This gives them a privileged status attended with certain immunities which the foreign minister enjoys in the country to which he is accredited. Briefly these are: (1) exemption of the minister and a qualified exemption of his family from the local jurisdiction, both civil and criminal; (2) inviolability of his house, papers, and goods from search and seizure; (3) exemption of his personal effects from imposts and taxation; and (4) liberty of worship. These immunities are referred to as the principle of extraterritoriality.
So, you see, the governments of this world recognize foreign governments and give their representatives honor and special status.
God's called out ones are truly His representatives and so, are ambassadors of the highest government of all. But we are not a part of this world (which is Satan's world) and so we gladly give up any such privileges for the sake of being more effective. (Note Jesus and Peter paying taxes, Mat.17:24-27, and the Apostle Paul giving up rights for the furtherance of the Gospel, I Cor.9:1-18.)
The government that we represent is so powerful we needn't be overly concerned about rights offered or denied by the governments of this world. Of course we should take advantage of any legalities that exist, as Paul did (Acts 22:25-26).
And he pleased God, who said to him, "Be of good cheer, Paul, for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome" (Acts 23:11). To this day the witness and warning Message of the Gospel goes out to all that "Rome" represents—and
