Lights down low, Lord just let her sleep
Down into the healing solace so deep
Slowed heartbeat, but still ringing ears
Nothing to drown out the same old fears
Stuffs her feet into slippers none too large
Down the hall she goes to check on her charge
Again she pastes the false smile in place
Struggling with tears falling down her face
Mom, do you hear me; are you awake?
Time for the medicine that you must take
She’s the caregiver, there’s no other kin
But who cares for the caregiver in the end
