God speaks to us in a multitude of ways. The question is, how in-tune are we with God? Are we paying attention?
Since God is Creator, He is indeed a part of everything we touch, taste, smell, see, and hear each day. Though we are not to worship the "created", such things should turn our eyes heavenward as we acknowledge who our source of life is. Yet, how many times do we lapse into daily ruts, going through the motions of life (even with prayer)? When that happens, it can be very hard to discern the outcome of a given prayer, unless it is something huge. Otherwise, we tend to miss the smaller blessings, unless we are submitting everything to God's control and are able to accept His will in a given situation, realizing that even negative outcomes are answers to prayer, and that God is not Santa Claus.
What are some ways God speaks to us? The most basic way is through the Bible. Sometimes it is through the Bible that new believers emerge, because of reading a passage that seemed to stand out as a direct message from the Lord. Or else they can relate with a character from the Bible whose life parallels their own.
Other times, it is by prayer that God manifests Himself. When we seek Him that way, He may supply us with strength and courage, or break our spirits so that we are filled with remorse and want to repent of our sins. He may even actually speak, so that we hear His voice or sense His presence and will and are redirected in our thoughts or actions. Perhaps we are led to find our missing car keys, are healed of an illness, or are able to end a bad relationship.
Dreams and visions are unusual, but not altogether uncommon phenomena. Just as God used dreams to speak to Jacob, Joseph, and Daniel, He does so to us today. Most of our dreams are rooted in our changes in our psyche, but occasionally there will be a dream that seems prophetic in nature, or is recurring. It might point to resolution of a known or unknown thing. There are also times when in our waking ours we may have a vision of something to come, or perhaps have a gut feeling about doing or saying something. Rather than dismiss such things as being psychic, they are in fact spiritually linked! It is a grave mistake to turn to soothsayers and those who conjure up forces of the dead or evil in order to find answers, when it is God ALONE who knows our futures
